I chose Louis Armstrong for my topic for this oral history project. I chose Louis Armstrong because I like music in general, I like for music, I wanted to know how he helped create jazz music, and to learn more about Louis Armstrong. I conducted my research about Louis Armstrong in many different ways. I researched him online, I went to multiple libraries to find books about him and do research about him there, I e-mailed experts on Louis Armstrong, I called people about Louis Armstrong like the Louis Armstrong Museum, and I interviewed people that new Louis Armstrong and jazz music. I selected to make a website for my oral history project because I wanted to try something new, I thought it would be a good and fun experience, and I didn't like any of the other choices for the project. I constructed my website for the oral history project on a website called weebly. I chose to make my website on weebly because my mom said it was really easy to make your own website on weebly. I also talked to some of my friends who were creating a website and they said that they were also using weebly and it was easy to create your own website on it. My project on Louis Armstrong relates to the National History Day theme of leadership and legacy. It relates to the theme of leadership and legacy because I researched on how Louis Armstrong was a leader in music and how his legacy impacted still lives on and how it impacted music today. I researched my thesis statement which was Louis Armstrong was the Ambassador of swing and helped form jazz music by bringing a soloist's part into the mostly ensemble part of jazz and created scat singing. This shows how my project relates to the theme of leadership and legacy.
